Frequently Asked Questions

Occupational Therapists work with children and adolescents to help them develop skills to increase their independence and confidence in everyday activities.

When working with children and adolescents we help them work towards achieving age appropriate skills in a variety of areas such as play, self care skills, learning and co-ordination. By developing their skills and increasing independence, a child’s confidence and self-esteem also grows.

An Occupational Therapist will work with the child and their family to help develop everyday skills which can then:

  • Increase their independence
  • Improve their ability to keep up with their peers at school and in the community
  • Improve their social skills
  • Assist with learning
  • Give the child greater self control over their behaviour
  • Develop increased attention
  • Improve confidence and self-esteem

A doctor’s referral is generally not required to attend occupational therapy, but a referral is required if you are eligible, and wish to access, any of the Medicare care plans (see information below on funding, for available Medicare plans).

The cost of an assessment varies depending on your child’s needs.

Therapy session costs vary based on the length of time of a session.

Current costs are discussed during the initial phone enquiry and when appointments are    booked.
